Welcome to spring! I am thankful to feel the warm weather and see the sun out for longer each evening. With the arrival of spring, we know that the end of the school year will soon be upon us. In preparation for the final quarter there are a number of activities that your student will be an active member of, including the Pasco School District’s pilot of the new “Smarter Balanced Consortium Assessments” otherwise known as SBAC. As a member of the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium, Washington State will fully implement these assessments next year; however the Pasco School District made the decision this fall to participant in the pilot of new assessments. This means that your student will provide powerful data points and ensure that Pasco’s diverse population is represented when the assessments are reviewed and calibrated. Unfortunately as a pilot member individual student data will not be available, however we will be providing families with end of year MAPS in replacement of the traditional MSP data that has be provided over the past years. The MAPS assessment will begin April 7 and the SBAC will begin April 30th
. Both the MAPS and SBAC tests are conducted online. Also for those students who are enrolled in Algebra or Geometry will be taking the high school graduation required End of Course exam on June 3rd
In addition to assessing our students, are staff is busy planning 3rd Quarters SUPER FIT celebration which will honor our students whom have achieved all A, B, or C during the 3rd quarter. We are always looking for volunteers for this event if you are interested in volunteering please contact the school. Also 8th graders recently completed the registration process for high school and we will be honoring them on June 4th with an 8th grade only assembly and honors recognition beginning at 1:00 pm in our gym. Families are invited, however seating will be limited.
It has been an incredible first year as Principal at Stevens and I deeply appreciate the support I have received from our families and community. I look forward to many more years as a TIGER! If you have questions about your student’s academic progress please contact our office. We look forward to ending the year with as much enthusiasm as we began. Have a fabulous spring!
